Why You Shouldn’t Wait to Make Your Will

We all like to think we have plenty of time. Time to make decisions. Time to get organised. Time to get around to writing that Will. But the truth is, life doesn’t always wait for us to be ready, and delaying your Will can have serious and unintended consequences for the people you care about most.

The Risks of Waiting
Without a Will in place, you have no control over who inherits your estate. Instead, the rules of intestacy apply, and they rarely reflect the complexities of modern life. Unmarried partners, stepchildren, close friends, or favourite charities may receive nothing, even if they were central to your life.
There are other risks too:
If you lose mental capacity before making a Will, it's too late, even if you’ve spoken about your wishes.
A sudden illness or accident can leave loved ones dealing with confusion, disputes, and avoidable delays at an already painful time.
Dying without a Will can cost your family more in legal fees, time, and stress.
Life Moves Quickly
Big life events; buying a home, getting married, becoming a parent, getting divorced....often change our priorities. But even without a major event, our circumstances shift all the time:People come into our lives, others move on. Assets grow. Families evolve. Relationships deepen or drift.
Making a Will now doesn’t mean you’re locked in forever. It simply means you’re protecting those you love based on what matters today. And if your situation changes? Your Will can be updated.
It’s Easier Than You Think
Many people put off making a Will because they expect it to be complicated or uncomfortable. In reality, a good estate planner will guide you gently through the process, explain your options clearly, and make sure you feel in control.
The peace of mind you gain, knowing your affairs are in order, far outweighs any worries you may have about starting.
Don’t wait for the “right time”.
Let’s make sure your loved ones are protected, now and always.
Make time now...for your family, your wishes, and your peace of mind.
